A total of 164 entries were received across Devon, with 78 selected as finalists and a further five highly commended. The annual competition, now in its ninth year, saw the addition of a Tourism Innovation and New Business category, alongside numerous criteria changes to reflect the ever-changing world of tourism. Successful businesses in the Devon Awards will be fast-tracked into the South West Tourism Excellence Awards in February 2019, and possibly invited to represent Devon in the 2019 National VisitEngland Awards. Awards organizer Robin Barker of Services for Tourism, said: Were delighted to see the ongoing development of the Devon Tourism Awards since we launched them nine years ago, and to see entrants coming from all parts of this fabulous county. Highbullen Hotel at Chittlehamholt is a finalist for two awards: Business and Tourism Venue, and Large Hotel of the Year. Highcliffe House in Lynton is in the running for the B&B and Guesthouse of the Year award. Millbrook estate, near Umberleigh, and Stowford Farm Meadows, Ilfracombe, are both finalists for the Dog Friendly Business of the Year. Millbrook is also shortlisted for the Self Catering Accommodation of the Year and its Treetop Escape is in the running for Tourism Innovation and New Business Award. Stowford was also highly commended as Touring Camping and Caravanning Park of the Year. In the Glamping and Alternative Accommodation of the Year category, Longlands near Combe Martin are in the running. Loveland Farm in Bideford was highly commended in the same category. Clovelly is in the shortlist for the International Visitor Experience of the Year and the Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway is a finalist for Large Attraction of the Year. Quince Honey Farm at South Molton is in the running for Learning Experience of the Year, as well as Small Attraction of the Year. Otter Pool Barn, near Ilfracombe, has been shortlisted for the Access and Inclusivity Award, as well as Tourism Innovation and New Business Award. Woolacombe and Mortehoe Tourism Information Centre is in the running for Visitor Information Service of the Year.
