Pregnant women across Devon can now get their free winter flu vaccination, with NHS staff encouraging expectant mothers to also consider RSV and whooping cough vaccinations if they haven't already had them.

Pregnant women across Devon became eligible for their free winter flu vaccination from today, Tuesday 1 September, with NHS staff encouraging expectant mothers to also consider RSV and whooping cough vaccinations if they haven't already had them.

Some women may also be eligible for a COVID-19 vaccination, depending on individual circumstances.

Royal Devon Director of Midwifery Angela Bellamy said timing matters when it comes to vaccination during pregnancy. "Getting vaccinated at the right time during pregnancy is vital, as it passes life-saving antibodies to your baby before birth, while also protecting your own health," she said. "I encourage anyone who is pregnant to speak with your midwife about getting vaccinated at your next appointment."

Where to get vaccinated

Pregnant women at any stage of pregnancy can get the free flu vaccination through an immunisation midwife from today.

In North Devon, clinics are running at a number of locations throughout September and October, with details available on the North Devon Vaccination Centre pages of the Royal Devon website.

In East Devon, vaccinations are available at Clinic 1, Centre for Women's Health, RD&E (Wonford), Monday to Friday, 9am to 4.30pm. Women can get vaccinated during a usual appointment or drop in during opening hours, though calling ahead is recommended to check availability. RSV and whooping cough vaccinations are also available at these clinics.

Anyone with questions about the flu vaccine, or any other vaccinations offered during pregnancy, is advised to speak to their midwife.

Parents and carers of two and three-year-olds are also being urged to get their child vaccinated against flu this September. Children who were aged two or three on 31 August 2026 are eligible for a free flu vaccination, given as a nasal spray.

How to book

The National Booking System opened to the public on 17 August, and appointments for flu and, where eligible, COVID-19 vaccinations can also be booked at a local pharmacy, via the NHS website, the NHS App, by calling 119, or directly through a GP.
