BARNSTAPLE and Aberdeen based engineering firm J & S Marine is changing its name, dropping the word "marine" and becoming J+S Ltd.The change in name reflects a major transformation in the company, said its managing director David Jeffries."We're expanding our defence activities from our roots in naval support into both the land and air sectors. In the energy markets we're continuing to grow our Aberdeen-based oil and gas support operations and from this strong base we are now able to offer innovative engineering solutions into the rapidly developing wave and tidal sectors of the marine renewables marketplace. "We're also targeting other niche markets in which to exploit our engineering and production services skills."All our customers, suppliers and other stakeholders know us as J+S. So, against this backdrop, we felt the marine suffix that has served the company so well over the past 50 years, was unneccessary in our core marine markets and a potential hindrance in the non-marine markets that we now address." Along with the new name is a new logo and a new website, www.JandS.co.uk.J+S Ltd operates from sites at Barnstaple and Aberdeen, employing 120 people on a range of engineering and production activities, primarily in naval support and sub-sea asset management for the North Sea oil and gas exploration markets. The Company has recently undergone a secondary buy-out, having been acquired by management in a buy-out in 1999.
