Plans for a new skate park in Bideford will be set in stone this week.

Planning officers are recommended councillors approve the new skate park for the sportsground in Bideford.

A planning application for the facility was submitted this month, for the land off Kingsley Road.

If approved, the concrete park will be moved from Bank End and built on the redundant tennis courts.

The skate park plans went out to tender in March and will be built in two phases. It will include kerbs, rails and steps as well as large-scale bowls and ramps.

The move comes after TDC had to close the old skate park in February last year for health and safety reasons.

Councillor Phil Pennington, TDC lead member for community, culture and leisure, said: “The area lends itself perfectly for a new facility like this and with thorough public consultation we will ensure that the park offers exactly what the users would like to see.”

The matter will come before Torridge District Council’s plans committee meeting on Thursday, 9.30am at Bideford Town Hall.
