A hearing will run next week in Northam to determine the future of Westward Ho! village green on Golf Links Road.

A date has been set for a public inquiry to determine the future of Westward Ho! village green.

The inquiry for the parcel of land on Golf Links Road will begin on Tuesday (December 6) and will run until Thursday.

There will be sessions on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10am-5pm and an evening session on Tuesday from 6pm-8pm.

The inquiry will be held in Northam Town Hall in Windmill Lane.

Campaigners have been rallying to save the parcel of land on Golf Links Road, including the tennis courts and Happy Cafe, for more than a year.

But, in June, Torridge District Council (TDC) held a consultation on plans to build houses and create 'improved facilties' on the land.

Mike Durkin, chairman of the WHo's Park Campaign Group, applied to register the park as a village green a year ago.

TDC objected to the proposals, and now Devon County Council, the deciding body, will determine whether to designate the park as a village green at the hearing.
