Nearly 100 riders complete laps of Bideford’s ‘Powlers’ circuit

Nearly 100 cyclists pounded the pedals in aid of respite beach hut charity Everything Ellie.

Organisers of the 24-hour ‘Go Loopy’ cycle ride were asked to complete laps of the locally-known ‘Powlers’ route, which starts and finishes at Bideford Rugby Club.

Ricky Butler clocked up the most loops – 10 in total or 215.6 miles – to win himself a Garmin bike computer, donated by Barnstaple bike shop Carb Cycles.

Andy Unstead finished eight loops (190.4 miles), winning a £50 Carb Cycles voucher.

Phil Beasant wasn’t far behind; he finished seven loops (152.6 miles) and won a £25 Carb Cycles voucher.

The fastest lap recorded was by Tony Vesty (1 hour, 2mins) – at 1am in lashing rain and wind.

A total of 92 cyclists took part, raising £1971.80 for Everything Ellie, which was set up in memory of Barnstaple teenager Ellie Easton, who lost her battle with leukaemia in March last year.

A presentation evening was held at bike shop Carb Cycles in Pilton Causeway.
