Cycles legacy helps St John quick response

SPECIAL Cycles Response Units were dedicated by Ilfracombe St John Chaplain the Rev Father Robert Harris at the annual Devon County St John Carol Service, held in Barnstaple Parish Church.

The bicycle units were bought from a legacy left to Barnstaple St John Ambulance by local supporter, the late Miss Patricia Kenworthy of Yelland.

Dr Alan Howlett, North Devon area superintendent, said: “They will prove invaluable at duties where access by a normal ambulance would prove almost impossible, for example, on the Tarka Trail. They are fully equipped with a wide range of first aid and communications equipment”

Roger Jacob, North Devon area president) said: “This is a perfect example where money left to St John by a generous legacy is put to good and effective use. These cycles are expensive and we would not normally be able to afford them.”

Potential donors to St John by way of legacy are advised that they should address their donation to a specific division, such as Barnstaple, which they wish to support. General donations to St John Ambulance will go to St John HQ in London.
