Supporters want to raise £30,000 to buy a Sea King helicopter as a monument to Chivenor’s 22 Squadron.

A fundraising campaign has been launched to raise enough money to buy one of the RAF Chivenor Sea Kings.

The ‘Goodbye 22 Squadron and Thank You So Much’ page has launched a crowdfunding bid to raise £30,000 for the purchase in memory of 22 Squadron.

The page organisers said: “We would like to put up a monument to celebrate 74 years of RAF Search and rescue and in particular A flight 22 Squadron Chivenor who for the last 57 years have gone above and beyond the call of duty to keep us all safe.”

It is not yet known what will happen to the Chivenor Sea Kings once 22 Squadron leave the base in November.
