Opportunities to get your name on the tiles or in the entrance hall if you donate to the Barnstaple Museum Long Bridge Wing Appeal
The Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon Trust has launched a crowd funding page to get its Long Bridge Wing Appeal over the line.
Thanks to grant funding the museum has almost reached its £1.88million target for the new extension, with just £70,000 remaining.
Terry Green, chairman of the MBND Trust, said: “We have had lots of offers of donations and so have decided it would be good to offer rewards and incentives through Crowdfunder.”
Incentives range from badges for a £5 donation, through to a private view of the new wing for £25 and right up to having your name on the hall of fame inside the entrance hall for £500.
The project will start next month with finalising of designs and the contract will go out to tender in September, with building work set to start in January, 2018.
Mr Green added: “We shall have a bigger, better museum with much improved facilities, enhancing the experience of visitors, whether local or from away.
“Above all, the projected Social History Gallery will portray the life of North Devonians from the 19th to the 21st century, while with purpose-built and environmentally controlled galleries, workshops and stores the museum will be able to conserve and display so much that now languishes in store.”
So far the project has received grants of £500,000 from the Coastal Communities Fund and £868,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Most recently the Garfield Weston Foundation awarded £75,000, plus there has been £50,000 from Fullabrook CIC and £25,000 from the Foyle Foundation.
Mr Green said: “Further applications to charitable bodies are in the pipeline. In addition we have enjoyed the enthusiasm and generosity of local businesses, local individuals and visitors to the museum.
“As chairman of the trust, I should like to express our thanks to all the generous people who are making it possible to create in Barnstaple a major cultural attraction in the South West, to build on William Rock’s foundation and to give Barnstaple the museum that it deserves.”
