A man had to be rescued through a first floor window from a house fire in Bideford on Saturday, April 27.

Two appliances from Bideford and one crew from Torrington were called out to Honestone Street at 9.46pm.

The ground floor of the property was well alight and there were reports of a person stuck on the first floor.

Station manager Graham Rooke said crews had to rescue the man through a window using the appliance ladder.

"Crews did a really good job in rescuing the individual and dealing with the fire," he said.

Firefighters from Bideford rescued the occupant before tackling the blaze with two hose reel jets and four breathing apparatus.

The ground floor of the property was severely damaged by the fire.

The crews from Devon Fire and Rescue Service used positive pressure ventilation fans to clear the property of smoke.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by police and fire investigators.
