CAKES, crafts and traditional skills of rural North Devon will be in evidence at Arlington Court on Wednesday of next week.The annual Country Skills Day is part of the North Devon Festival programme and will feature everything from demonstrations of weaving, sheep shearing and herding to locally produced food, preserves and artistry.New for this year is an Historical Baking Competition, with contestants invited to enter using an 1873 recipe for chocolate cake discovered in a notebook belonging to a Victorian cook at the estate."The Trust is committed to using fresh local food in all its tearooms and we bake all our cakes on site," said catering manager Julie Baddeley.To enter the cake competition using a genuine Victorian recipe, call (01271) 850296 and ask for more information.
