Two North Devon voluntary groups have been given a helping hand by their local councillor, in the form of grants towards projects they are carrying out.Barnstaple South county councillor Chris Haywood has given cash support from his County Committee budget, which allows county councillors to support local projects with one-off grants.Friends of North Devon Portage have been given £500 to buy a laptop to enable Portage workers to present training and information to the families of special needs children in their homes. Cllr Haywood said: "This is an important facility which will also enable pre-school children to work on programmes that might help them communicate with their peers and share their ideas and feelings."North Devon Voluntary Services also received £500 to buy changeable slot-in signs to advertise services at the new NDVS and Volunteer Bureau on Forches estate in Barnstaple.
