NORTH Devon Council has turned down an application for two wind turbines at a family-run, organic farm near Goodleigh, Barnstaple.

Plans for the twin 20-metre 15kw generators on land at Bampfield Farm, Northleigh Hill, were refused due to their impact on the surrounding landscape and environment.

"Planning policies relating to the environment must be balanced against energy policies," said council planners.

"The site is visually prominent and the development would not safeguard the character of the open countryside. The Local Planning Authority is supportive of the application in principle but is not supportive of the siting at this level.
