NORTH Devon Council has successfully retained two national accolades. For the fourth time in a row, the authority has retained its Investors in People accreditation, a scheme which recognises companies and organisations that value their staff and support them on a daily basis. The second award was for the council's legal team, which has gained the Lexcel quality mark for the 10th year in a row.The award is a quality standard for the legal profession and is awarded by the Law Society. The legal team deals with all of the council's prosecutions and property issues, oversees tendering exercises and supports all departments within the council with their legal issues. Recently this has included helping through the introduction of the new Civil Parking Enforcement service. The department has also brought about several successful prosecutions in partnership with the environmental health and benefit fraud teams."These two accolades are very welcome news. A lot of hard work goes into making sure we maintain the high standards required by these awards schemes so it is great to get this recognition," said the Leader of the council, Councillor Michael Harrison."It's not just about winning awards though. We are proud to be an IiP organisation as it means our staff feel valued and therefore provide excellent customer service. Lexcel is important as it makes sure our legal unit is performing well and helping all of our front line services deliver quality and value for money.
