New fenders and mooring rings will improve safety and ease of access

Rotten and damaged timber fenders have been replaced as part of a £13,500 refurbishment of the slipway at Appledore quay.

Ten new galvanised steel mooring rings have also been installed by specialist contractors TMS Maritime Ltd, funded by Torridge District Council.

It is hoped the work will improve safety and make mooring and embarkation easier for commercial businesses such as the Appledore to Instow ferry, as well as community groups such as the Appledore Pilot Gig.

Appledore councillor Andrew Eastman: “I’m glad the council has been able to fund this much-needed improvement to the quay and hope that the whole community will benefit from the upgrade.

“Importantly, I hope it will address the issues that the community were concerned about regarding safety and that all users will also find the new facilities much more user friendly for the many different type of vessels that moor and visit here.”
