Council claims you can’t see the town for the weeds

Barnstaple Town Council calls on county council leader to see for himself how bad its undergrowth is becoming.

BARNSTAPLE Town Council is to invite the leader of Devon County Council to visit and see just how bad marauding vegetation has become.

The council has already written once to protest at the lack of grass cutting and weeding being carried out in the town by highways contractors.

Town clerk Anne Jenkins said it was a major issue and a huge source of complaints to councillors. She said the council lengthsman Fred Grimwood spent a great deal of time cutting back areas that had not been done, but he could not carry out highways work.

On Monday the council agreed to invite DCC leader Cllr John Hart to tour Barnstaple with the Mayor, Cllr Lesley Brown.
