Areas of Torridge with particularly slow internet can apply for voucher to install faster speeds.

If your broadband is particularly slow, you could be eligible for a £500 to install a new connection.

Small businesses and residents in Torridge will be able to check if they can apply for the voucher before March 2017.

If your broadband is below two megabytes per second (mbps) you can apply for the voucher.

This can be used with a number of recommended broadband suppliers to bring speeds of a minimum of 10mbps.

The voucher scheme will supplement the work CDS is doing to bring fast fibre optic cable connections to the area and is aimed at more rural areas not covered by fibre.

Councillor John Himan, lead member for the economy, said: "The lack of a faster broadband connection is something that has in the past held back growth in the local economy and caused frustration for many of our residents and small to medium sized businesses using online services.

"While the situation has improved with the rollout of fibre optic technology there are still pockets of poor connectivity which this scheme will help to address.

"There is a time limit on the current offer and I hope that anybody with a poor connection will take advantage of this free voucher."
