Plans for Bideford’s new skate park are set to go out to tender within the next couple of weeks.

Last month the Gazette reported how Torridge District Council voted to move the skate park from its current location at Bank End to the football grounds.

The new park will be built on the redundant tennis courts and will be funding by £50,000 from the council and £50,000 from Section 106 funding.

Once a contractor is appointed, a public consultation will take place to determine how the park should be constructed.

Proposals will then go before the council’s plans committee in the late summer, with the intention of the park opening by the end of the year.

Councillor Phil Pennington, lead member for community, culture and leisure, said: “The Sports Ground is the ideal location for the town’s new destination skate park.

“The area lends itself perfectly for a new facility like this and with thorough public consultation we will ensure that the park offers exactly what the users would like to see.”

TDC had to close the old skate park in February last year for health and safety reasons.
