Council commissions new study to find out more about the need for taxis in Bideford and the surrounding area.

Torridge District Council (TDC) is consulting on plans to limit the number of hackney carriage (taxi) licences it issues.

The council's last survey in 2012 showed there was a reduction in passengers using the Bideford taxi rank since 2008.

The last report also found there was no significant, unment demand for taxis and the council currently only provides 49 metered taxi licenses.

TDC has now commissioned a new independent report and as part of that process would like to gather views from members of the public through consultation.

Councillor Alan Whittle, lead member for licensing, said: "We would be very grateful for any feedback on taxi provision in Torridge which also asks people to rate the current service they receive.

"We would particularly like to hear from people who are regular users and those who may have access issues due to disability or other factors."
