YEO Valley residents in Barnstaple could enjoy new community facilities thanks to \u00A380,000 funding from Devon County Council. The money has been allocated for a feasibility study to assess the best use of a site in St George's Road, which is owned by the council. The funding has been made possible by the sale of Exeter Airport last year and the study is due to start this month, with completion in the latter half of the year.It will assess the type of local community facilities required, whether the identified site is a viable option and potential timescales and funding opportunities. It will also investigate what can be done to address the local housing needs identified by North Devon Council.County council leader and local member for Barnstaple North, Cllr Brian Greenslade, said: "I'm very pleased that the county council is working in partnership with local community groups to look carefully at the kind of facilities needed in this area. Yeo Valley currently has a distinct lack of modern community and sports facilities. We need to change this, help families make healthier lifestyle choices, motivate our young people and help all residents play an active part in improving their quality of life within their community."Lesley Brown, chairperson of the Yeo Valley Community Group, said: "We're really delighted about this announcement. As people who live and work in the area we know it has needed new community facilities for a long time and they will help and involve everyone from babies to pensioners."Jan Reid, head teacher at Yeo Valley Primary School, said: "A hub for activities would create many opportunities for the community. It is now vital that local residents put forward their ideas, so that we can create facilities to meet the needs of everyone living within the area.
