Fire crews from Barnstaple were called to the scene where they found the combine harvester well alight.
Fire fighters from Barnstaple were called out to reports of a combine harvester on fire yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon.
Two fire engines and a water carrier raced to field near Chapelton Barton at around 4.50pm.
They found the small combine harvester well alight and quickly started to attack the flames using two hose reel jets.
Wearing breathing apparatus, crews spent an hour and a half fighting the fire before it was extinguished.
They said the cause was accidental.
