A Combe Martin teenager has been charged with aggravated vehicle taking five months after a van left a trail of destruction in the village.

The 17-year-old male suspect, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been bailed to appear at North Devon Youth Court on Tuesday, November 3.

It relates to a night of havoc during Whitsun weekend in May. Residents of Castle Street were shocked awake by a huge din and rushed outside to discover a white van had crashed and become wedged across the entire street.

In the process three cars were written off, while a fourth and a trailer were badly damaged and two walls demolished.

Detective Sergeant Austin Goss of Ilfracombe CID said that following forensic investigation they had been able to identify a suspect.
