Combe Martins carnival week got off to a wonderful watery start on Sunday. The raft races saw an assortment of homemade rafts in the senior race Combe Martin Churches Together even created their raft on the beach first. The main carnival parade is this Friday, with assembly at the top of the village from 6pm and moving off at 7.30pm, followed by live music with Falling Apart at the Castle Inn at 10pm. The best dressed rafts and crews were: 1st, Noahs Ark - Churches Together, 2nd, 50 years of Sgt Pepper and 3rd, Magic Money Tree. The three fastest came from The Blackmore Brigade, with HMS Scurvy 1st, HMS Victory 2nd and HMS Tallywhacker 3rd. There were also kayak and stand-up paddle board races, with kayaks, SUPs and buoyancy aids donated by Gary Mallinder at Surfside Kayaks. Events this week include the Pavement Art Competition is on Friday at 10.30am at Borough Road, with a car show at the Pack O Cards on Saturday at 10am, followed by the Duck Race at 3pm.
