Organisers say there will be a Combe Martin Carnival parade on August 11, 2017, thanks to unexpected funding
Combe Martin will have a carnival parade this August after thanks to 11th hour funding from two local organisations.
Combe Martin Tourist Association and Ilfracombe and District Lions Club have given the village Carnival Committee grants so it can hold a parade on Friday, August 11 during what would have been carnival week.
The committee regretfully announced in January there would be no carnival week for 2017 because it had not attracted enough volunteers to support it at the AGM, as well as a lack of sponsorship.
In a statement the committee said: “There has been no ‘u-turn’ or ‘finding of funds’. Simply put, without the financial and physical support of the Tourist Association and Lions Club there would be no carnival.
“They are the ones who have saved this year and we are incredibly grateful.
“Hopefully you are all as excited about this as we are. Volunteers to marshal the parade would be very welcome and ideal if you want to get involved without getting dressed up.”
The call has also gone out for as many floats and walkers to take part in the parade as possible.
Ilfracombe Lions have also asked that as many entrants as possible also take part in Ilfracombe’s carnival.
At this stage the event will be a parade only, but if anyone is interested in sponsoring a firework display, they are asked to get in touch.
If you could volunteer, or would like to sponsor the event, visit the Combe Martin Carnival Facebook page or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
