Join Phil Metcalfe-Boyen at The Castle Inn Combe Martin on Saturday (September 30) when he’ll have his first shave and haircut for a year-and-a-half

After a year and seven months without a shave a Barnstaple man will be going under the clippers at The Castle Inn, Combe Martin, this Saturday.

Lorry driver Phil Metcalfe-Boyen joined the army when he was 17 and has remained clean shaven ever since, but the loss of his sister Lynn to cancer earlier this year prompted him to take on the fundraising challenge of growing his hair.

Phil, 56 on Friday, will be raising money for Over and Above's cancer and wellbeing centre appeal.

He said: "I have had short hair since I was 17 - the problem with it now is it's curly but now I think I am going to miss it.

"The beard is ridiculous, I look like a tramp, but I am thinking about growing it back again."

The Castle will have music with Bicycle Repair Man from 3pm and the big shave will take place at around 4.
