North Devon College has won its bid for funding of more than £100 million to relocate to a site at Seven Brethren, BarnstapleThe stunning news has been nervously anticipated since the bid to move 3,000-plus learners from the existing site at nearby Sticklepath was announced 18 months ago.The bulk of the funding has come from the Learning and Skills Council, together with substantial help from the Higher Education Funding Council for England, South West RDA and the University of Plymouth.Set between the Leisure Centre car park and the Tarka Tennis Centre, the new state-of-the-art college complex will feature a theatre, sports facilities, restaurants plus hair and beauty salons which will be available to the whole community.College Principal David Dodd said it was "unbelievably brilliant news" for all in North Devon:"It is something really needed to support both North Devon and Torridge," he said."We need to ensure we work together to meet our target opening date of September 2011."_ SEE the full story in this week's North Devon Gazette, available from Wednesday.
