A cleaner who has polished and scrubbed every inch of Pilton Community College for the past 44 years has no intention of retiring - despite just celebrating her 80th birthday!Jean Davey still arrives for work at the school at 5.45am each morning and returns again for the afternoon shift at 2.30pm.Colleagues, staff and well-wishers turned out in force on Friday to help Jean celebrate her birthday and pay tribute to the unstinting service and dedication she has shown in more than four decades."As far as I am concerned, Jean can continue working at Pilton for as long as she likes," said Mark Juby, College Principal."She never has a day off, she's a fantastic cleaner. Her colleagues and the pupils just love having her around, she has a smile on her face and is so positive - an inspiration to us all."Mr Juby said several college pupils had said they felt Jean was a part of their community and appreciated it when she took the time to go into classrooms and talk to them, not to mention the spotless conditions she left the rooms in!"You don't replace people like her, she is just so loved by everyone," he said.Born and bred in Pilton, Jean worked in Richard's Cake Shop, before she married and had a family, but went back to work in 1965, two years after the new school at Pilton opened - and she has remained a favourite with staff and pupils ever since."I am so happy here and everybody is kind to me. The staff help me and I help them, we work together and always have done," said Jean.Speaking during her birthday celebrations, she added: "It has been a beautiful day and one to remember."Everybody has been so kind to me, all over the years and not just today, but every day.
