YOUNG footballers are being given the chance to sharpen their skills at a weekly youth coaching events being held in Barnstaple throughout the summer. The Tews Lane Sports Community and Recreational Association is hosting Thursday evening football coaching sessions with qualified Level Two FA coach Will Martin. The first of the sessions - for children aged from eight to 12 years old - takes place at the Tews Lane playing field, Rounsdswell tomorrow (Thursday) night, from 5-7pm.The initiative is being launched by the sports association to encourage more youngsters to use the facility, said treasurer John Gill, who is also a North Devon Councillor."We've got a great sporting facility that is already well used by the under-eight, right through to the under-15 Barnstaple Youth sides," said Cllr Gill."But we want to open the facility up to more youngsters and these sessions are a great way for them to get involved."Following a successful Tews Lane Fun Day last June, the association is currently organising a similar event to take place on Saturday, June 13, this year.Cllr Gill added: "We had around 2,500 people attend last summer's event so will be putting on a similar day of football tournaments and other fun events for the whole family to enjoy."Each football coaching session costs £1.50.
