Co-op starts a year of fund raising

STAFF at the Co-operative foodstore in Bideford donned their running shoes this week for the symbolic start of a year fund raising on behalf of the charity Mencap.

The Co-operative group has chosen Mencap as its Charity of the Year and will be raising funds to help transform the lives of young people with a learning disability as part of its commitment to Inspiring Young People.

Bideford staff dressed as runners and as cheerleaders for a colourful start to their local campaign.

Store manager Colin Atkinson said: “We Want to boost the confidence of young people with a learning disability, so they can stand tall and hold their heads high. It’s the start of a busy year of fund raising and we’ll have a lot to do before we cross the finishing line. But it will be worth it. I’m incredibly proud to have Mencap as out Charity of the Year.”

Mencap supports 1.5 million people with a learning difficulty in the UK and their families and carers.
