SHIVERING services at St Brannock's Church in Braunton became a thing of the past at the weekend - much to the relief of the congregation. The church heating system broke down irreparably before Christmas and during the festive period many shivered over their song sheets! The old boiler could not be repaired and was condemned, but now a new one has been installed and at the weekend there was physical as well as spiritual warmth inside the parish church. The new boiler cost some £8,000-9,000 and has been paid for from church funds, but it is hoped parishioners will rally around to help make up the shortfall."And of course the breakdown had to coincide with about the coldest weather anybody can remember!" said church administrator Marguerite Shapland."Being an old building, once it gets cold, it stays cold - last Sunday we had to have a very shortened service."To contribute to the new St Brannock's boiler, call the Parish Office on (01271) 813367.
