A 70-year-old man with a broken leg and hypothermia plus a rescuer with concussion who had fallen enroute to the casualty were airlifted to safety amidst driving snow from Pen Y Fan on the Brecon Beacons. Members of the Central Beacons Mountain Rescue Team who travelled overland to reach the casualty described an incredible bit of flying in conditions more like Alaska than South Wales. The Chivenor helicopter had been on standby at Swansea awaiting a break in the weather. They set off and landed on the A370 road for briefing before taking to the air once more to rescue the casualties in what witnesses said was a display of sheer skill. The injured were taken to Morriston Hospital in Swansea.
