THE cold weather has seen an increase in chimney fires across North Devon and Torridge, most recently yesterday (Sunday) evening at Holsworthy.
A fire crew from Holsworthy attended the Staddon Road incident just before 8pm and used small tools, chimney equipment and a thermal imaging camera to locate and extinguish the fire.
The fire service is constantly reminding home owners to ensure chimneys are regularly swept and maintained, especially at the onset of winter.
Checking surrounding brickwork, flue and loft or roof spaces is also important, as is the installation of smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.
