Chimney fire at historic Tawstock home

FIREFIGHTERS spent several hours battling flames that threatened to destroy a 17th century thatched house in Tawstock on Sunday morning. Two crews from Barnstaple used breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet after the alarm was raised just after 8.30am.

FIREFIGHTERS spent several hours battling flames that threatened to destroy a 17th century thatched house in Tawstock on Sunday morning.

Two crews from Barnstaple used breathing apparatus and one hose reel jet after the alarm was raised just after 8.30am.

The blaze is thought to have started in a chimney stack and spread to small joists and wooden beams in the first floor of a detached property.
