ELEVEN local charities benefited from a bumper hand-out from Appledore's busy West Quay Fund-raisers.At their annual presentation night at the Beaver Inn, the Fund-raisers handed out cheques totalling nearly £7,000.There was £1,500 each for the Children's Hospice South West, the North Devon Hospice and towards refurbishment work at Appledore's Parish Church Hall.The Sea Cadets, Torridge Pilot Gig Club, North Devon Cancer Care and the Headway charity for those with head injuries each received £500.Cheques for £100 each were also presented to the Friendship Club at Appledore Blue Lights Hall, the Friends of Appledore Library, the local Girl Guides and Brownies and Remap, the charity which provides bespoke aids for the disabled.The money was raised by a variety of events in Appledore, including an auction of goods and promises and the Fund-raisers ' annual New Year swim.The charity group is centred on the neighbouring pubs The Beaver Inn and The Royal George at West Quay in Irsha Street.
