Special ChemoHero bus will be unveiled at Barnstaple’s Christmas light switch-on on Sunday

North Devon charity ChemoHero is being honoured by bus provider Stagecoach South West with a specially decorated bus.

The ChemoHero bus will be officially unveiled on Sunday at the Barnstaple Christmas light switch-on event.

It will be decorated with the charity’s logo and branding, making it easy to spot as it travels around North Devon, and will also have on-board information about the charity and how to get involved.

The charity was set up by Lisa Wallis while fighting her own battle against cancer, and provides gift boxes to people undergoing chemotherapy.

Lisa has also been nominated by Stagecoach, who are sponsoring the Barnstaple switch-on, to turn on the lights alongside Bobby Crush and Niki French, stars of Barnstaple’s Beauty and the Beast panto.

Lisa said: “Some years ago my Mum entered my son into a Stagecoach competition to have his name on a bus. People noticed the Stanley Walter bus all the time and would excitedly tell me about it,

“It was wonderful and I cannot explain what this did for me when I was undergoing treatment.

“When the bus disappeared I asked Stagecoach about it. By this time I had started ChemoHero and was undergoing treatment for a second time.

“Stagecoach came up with the idea of a bus dedicated to the charity and it made perfect sense, with chemo patients undergoing their own journey.

“We are really grateful to Stagecoach for creating this fantastic bus, which we hope will spread the word about ChemoHero and encourage more businesses to support what we do, either by donating gifts or sponsoring items.”

The bus will be there for all to see from 3pm on Sunday, and Stagecoach will be on hand with festive freebies and providing timetable information for the Christmas and New Year period.

Stagecoach marketing manager Helen Scholes said: “We are delighted to be supporting Lisa and ChemoHero and hope the special bus will increase awareness of the charity and the important work it does in the North Devon community.

“We look forward to launching the bus in Barnstaple on the 19th at what promises to be a fun filled family occasion and spectacular switch on event.”
