The tin was thought to contain around £150 the couple had raised after the help their son received from the Special Care Baby Unit.

Police are appealing after a charity tin was stolen from a family's windowsill in Barnstaple.

The couple living in the house were raising money for Over and Above after their young son spent some time in the Special Care Baby Unit.

They had raised around £150 in the tin to thank the unit for all of it's help.

But on some time between 3-4pm on Saturday (August 27) the tin was taken from their ground floor window in Whiddon Valley.

A spokesman for Barnstaple Police said: "This is not only an appeal to members of the public but also, if you are the offender and you are reading this, please think again about your actions and the effect you are having on others."
