Charity selling off North Devon houses

A national charity is selling up and leaving North Devon.

The Guinness Trust is selling supported housing projects Cherry Trees at Litchdon Street and Hamilton House, Newport Road in Barnstaple.

According to a report going to North Devon Council executive on Tuesday, the properties are on the open market.

The charity is seeking the council’s permission to sell a further 30 ‘general needs’ homes at Montpelier Road and Chandlers Way in Ilfracombe to North Devon Homes.

The Cherry Trees project hit the headlines in 2010 when one of the houses was destroyed in massive gas explosion that left two men badly burned. Resident Oliver Moon later admitted arson and was detained at a secure hospital.
