Charity fun with ‘human fruit machine’

‘Six arm bandit’ helps raise money for Children’s Hospice South West.

A lovely trio of coconuts – not to mention pineapples, oranges and bananas – popped up more than once after the Corner House in Barnstaple installed a human fruit machine.

The fun organic gambling organism was part of a fund raising day on behalf of Children’s Hospice South West and was 50p a go.

Upon payment a rattle would be rattled, a bell rung and each of the three blindfolded human “reels” would pull a fruit from a box.

It proved to be great fun and helped raise around 50. Three pineapples paid out 10 pounds and came up twice, but coconuts proved the best bet for gamblers – simply because no one could eat them.
