INDUSTRIOUS Bideford youngsters will be hard at work this Sunday (June 1) washing cars to help raise money for charity. The volunteers will be at Riverbank car park, alongside Victoria Park, from 11am to 4pm and in return for their labour will be collecting money for local charities. It is an initiative from the Vinvolved national youth volunteering programme for young people aged from 16-25.As well as raising money, it is hoped to use the day to encourage more young people in North Devon to volunteer for a range of local projects and events.Opportunities available this summer include helping out at North Devon Theatrefest, Bideford Folk Festival, Arlington Court, Summer Science Day and the Woodfair South West."The amount of time you give is up to you and you don't need special qualifications," said project manager Amy Sands."Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, try something different, learn useful skills and give something back to your community."Bideford 21-year-old Leon Davies said volunteering had been a great experience: "Volunteering built my self confidence and I got a great kick out of knowing I'd helped other people. I fitted it in around the rest of my life and I made some new friends too." To find out how to get involved in the project contact Amy Sands on (01237) 459533 or 07971 044134.
