Dog owners and beach users are divided over whether dogs should be banned from parts of Instow Beach - add your vote to our poll

The debate over dogs on Instow beach has been heating up after we revealed yesterday (Tuesday) that a ban could be proposed for part of the beach.

Dozens of people have taken to the Gazette Facebook page to comment on the issue, with opinion divided over whether a ban would be a good idea.

So today we have launched a poll to gauge public opinion – make sure you cast your vote.

The Beach Management Working Group of Instow Parish Council has recommended the council exclude dogs from the beach between Lane End Road and the Quay between April 1 and September 30.

In October 2015 after fears a dog ban might be imposed, the parish council voted to leave things as they were and review the situation again in 18 months.

Minutes of the working group seen by the Gazette also revealed DEFRA had approached the parish council for consultation as it was considering removing Instow beach from the list of designated bathing waters.

The beach has water quality has been classified as poor in 21 out of the past 22 years.
