Offenders broke into the property in Silverwood Heights through an unlocked front door and stole the items while owners slept.

A burglar broke into a home in Barnstaple and stole cash, a camera and tobacco while the owners were asleep overnight on Thursday.

Police said offenders entered the property in Silverwood Heights through an unlocked front door sometime between 12.30am and 3.30am on Friday, September 9.

They made a tidy search of the lounge before stealing a pink metal tin with the words 'Stay Calm and Buy Shoes' written on the top and containing a quantity of cash.

They also took a Panasonic camera valued at £250 and a quantity of tobacco.

Police are appealing for witnesses and would like to speak to anyone who may have seen suspicious activity or individuals around the address at the time of the offence.

Officers are also reminding residents to ensure that all windows and doors are locked at night to prevent opportunist theft.
