Commuters with room to spare in their vehicle could win a free tank of fuel by signing up to Devon County Councils car-sharing website. The council is launching the competition to encourage people to share their cars through its website, carsharedevon.com. Anyone sending a request to share a journey between Monday, October 2 and Sunday, November 26 entered into a prize draw to win a tank of fuel up to the value of £100. The website allows users to search for others travelling in the same direction, who are either looking for a lift, or offering a space in a car. As well as reducing the environmental impact, car sharers can save money on fuel, car parking and running costs, as well as enjoy a more social aspect to their drive. Councillor Stuart Hughes, Devon County Councils cabinet member responsible for highways, said: With 38,000,000 empty car seats on UK roads every rush hour, its clear that theres a huge opportunity to better utilise spare capacity for travel. CarshareDevon.com is helping to shape the future of everyday, travel to work journeys. Devon is leading the way by demonstrating that car sharing can be part of the solution to congestion in our towns and cities.
