Braunton county councillor Caroline Chugg has been appointed the new chairman of Devon County Council.

Councillor Chugg was sworn in at council’s annual meeting today (Thursday), replacing Ray Radford.

She was first elected to Braunton Parish Council and North Devon Council in 2007, before being elected as a county councillor two years later.

In her maiden speech, cllr Chugg said she wanted to recognise the achievements of women in the county, and hopes to use her role to champion Devon’s natural environment to promote good mental and physical health and healthy living initiatives.

Councillor Chugg said: “I am delighted to be appointed the new chair of Devon County Council.

“I am proud and honoured to be even considered for this position and, with the help of my vice chair Richard Hosking I will continue the work of my predecessor Ray Radford in raising the profile of the council and all the good work it does.”
