TWO North Devon schools have been getting into the samba spirit thanks to the visit of a top London carnival band.Kinetica Bloco shimmied their way down the M5 from the capital to shake their stuff at Chulmleigh and South Molton Community Colleges as part of a Devon County Council Music Service initiative.Normally found raising temperatures in the city, the band of woodwind and brass players, drummers and elaborate costumed dancers has represented London as part of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Cultural Festival. It also performed at the recent unveiling of the Nelson Mandela statue in Parliament Square. The band arrived in Devon in a riot of colour and sound. They brought with them an eclectic mix of musical entertainment to the region's schools. At both schools, the group held various workshops for students with the aim of inspiring young people to get involved with music, and helping schools to start their own carnival bands.Youngsters spent a couple of hours learning tips from the professionals before putting the elements together and performing in front of fellow students._ SOAK up some of the samba vibes by viewing the action filmed at Chulmleigh Community College on this website.
