Spectators and supporters are invited to watch the new 10k event on Sunday, July 9

Spectators are invited to cheer on runners at the first ever Care for Kids Barnstaple 10K on Sunday, July 9.

The charity is hoping to raise around £4,000 and the event has been sponsored by Brewer, Harding & Rowe.

The race for 300 runners is now full and they will set off from Park School palying field at 10am.

The route takes runners around Rock Park, along Taw Vale and the Strand using the Tarka Trail and over the Taw Bridge, which is the steepest part of the course.

The race will return back to the square along the river side and continue back into Rock Park finishing at Park School.

Jackie Massos at Care for Kids said: “With no current 10K in Barnstaple we have taken the opportunity so organise our own and so far the event has proven to be really successful, as we have families who the charity has helped participating as well as a lot of general interest.

“We hope this event becomes an established annual community event where people of North Devon come to support Care for Kids North Devon and increase the awareness of the work the charity does in their local communities and how their support makes a real difference to families.”

The charity provides practical and financial support to parents whose children are receiving medical care a long way from home.
