Councillors will be voting on recommendations to install card payment machines at pay-and-display car parks around Torridge.

If approved, the installation at Bideford’s Bridge Street, The Pill, The Quay, Riverbank short stay and Westward Ho! main car park, would cost Torridge District Council around £35,000.

The minimum transaction would be £3 and if successful, could be rolled out to other suitable car parks.

Other recommendations for the council’s community and resources committee on Monday, November 26, include increasing all permit charges by £5.

Reserved bay charges are recommended to increase from £447 to £500.

The Car Parks Working Group also discussed two hours’ free parking at some car parks, but this was dismissed on the grounds of affordability.

Pay and display car park charges are not recommended to go up again.

If approved, the changes will take place in March.
