Appeal to North Devon companies to help preserve ring and ride plus shopmobility services

A campaign to save vital shopmobility plus ring and ride services in North Devon is on track but help is needed.

Go North Devon (GND) launched its Save Our Seats appeal in March to try and cover a shortfall of £64,000 in the face of dwindling council grants.

Jan Lewis from GND made a presentation to North Devon Council on Wednesday, telling councillors about the service and calling on them to continue its support through grant funding.

The charity's SOS campaign has been aimed at drumming up support from local businesses to keep the shopmobility scooter hire service and Ring and Ride bus going.

Jan said the appeal was making inroads but they still needed more help. She said there had been support from traders in the town and companies including Padfields, McDonalds, James Electrics, Taw Garages and Clevera Design.

"Six months on, the campaign is very much on track but we still need support," she said.

"If these services disappear, when you or I need them they won't be there and if they're lost they will be lost for ever."
