PLANS for a new 30 pitch camping and caravanning site at Mullacott near Ilfracombe have been recommended for refusal when they go before councillors today (Wednesday.)The proposal at Sunnymead Farm would have "an unacceptable impact" on the surrounding countryside and Coastal Preservation Area, which is already "saturated" with such facilities, a report will tell the planning committee of North Devon District Council. The Highways Authority has expressed concerns, saying it could result in more traffic on the main road, a dangerous right turn and "inadequate" access. The area, owned by applicants Mr and Mrs P Lock, is already used as a camp site under a certificate from the Camping and Caravanning Club for up to five caravans, a number for which planning permission is not necessary.
