A campaign is mounting in Westward Ho! to save the park and tennis courts.Concerned residents are worried Torridge District Council, which owns the land, will be selling it to be built upon. Around 40 people have set up a working party, WHos Park Campaign Group, and are working on gathering support. Chairman Mike Durkin said: Its not a very grand park, or a very big park but its ours. When the tide is high we see a lot of families here and children running with delight towards the sheltered play equipment its wonderful to watch. Most of the tennis courts are often full and its a big draw for visitors as well as locals. The group is organising a family fun day on the village square (opposite the main car park) on Saturday, from 2pm-4pm. Westward Ho! councillor Peter Le Maistre said: The working party represents an opportunity to initiate a phase of consultation with the residents group that has been formed to explore, discuss and prioritise options for further consideration. Any agreed outcomes will complement a broader range of feedback we will be seeking to gather through wider public consultation. Naturally, members will also be involved before any proposals are finalised or a way forward is decided upon. The council confirmed it is investigating options for the future of the site, but no decisions have yet been reached.
