The eight-hectare Calvert Devon complex near Kentisbury is now up for sale with Savills

The buildings and land of the Calvert Devon outdoor activity charity are already on the market following an announcement the charity is closing within a week.

The charity, which provided outdoor activities such as horse riding and climbing for people with disabilities, announced it would be closing at the end of August because it was no longer financially viable to keep it open.

Now the 8.15 hectare freehold property near Kentisbury, which includes a substantial range of accommodation, leisure and ancillary buildings is on the market with Savills.

There is no guide price listed but offers are invited.

Savills is marketing the former activity centre under its previous name of Calvert Trust Exmoor. The sales listing says the site includes a ‘substantial courtyard accommodation building providing a mix of accessible en-suite bedrooms, dining and catering facilities, lounges, meeting spaces and staff accommodation’.

It said in addition, five detached lodges were developed in 2025 to provide further accessible accommodation.

The location also includes a swimming pool and spa complex, a riding centre with indoor riding arena and 11 stables, an indoor sports hall with climbing wall, a detached discovery centre, maintenance workshop, biomass boiler house and a range of outbuildings and stores.

Chris Sweeney, director at Savills, said: “Calvert Trust Exmoor presents a rare opportunity to acquire a substantial leisure and hospitality asset in one of the South West's most attractive rural settings.

“The property has been extensively developed over many years and offers a diverse range of accommodation, leisure and equestrian facilities.”

Calvert Devon, previously operated as Calvert Trust Exmoor, had been at the location overlooking Wistlandpound Reservoir for just over 30 years.

In a statement on its website, the charity said the decision to close had been extremely difficult but the centre was no longer financially viable.

Less than two years ago it faced closure but was saved in autumn 2024 after the community and generous donors raised £500,000 to ensure it could stay open. It was renamed Calvert Devon last year.
